The second day of the field module within the program took place in Lviv, with the lecture part hosted by the Ukrainian Baptist Theological Seminary. Together with experts from the Mental Health Hub “DiyaTY”, participants explored the issues of secondary traumatization among helping professionals and the path toward a person’s spiritual healing.

Psychologist Mariia Dubynina spoke about the causes, symptoms, and consequences of burnout among specialists who work with human suffering and shared effective self-care practices.

Father Yurii Ostapiuk addressed the topic of moral injury from ethical and spiritual perspectives. He illustrated the healing process with examples from his own pastoral experience – showing how professionals working with people can help them navigate shame, guilt, and trauma.

After the lectures, participants visited the UNBROKEN Center – the largest medical facility in Ukraine providing care for both military personnel and civilians affected by the war. The center is known for its comprehensive approach to treatment, which includes emergency surgeries, prosthetics, and psychosocial rehabilitation.

Oleh Bilianskyi, Head of the Rehabilitation Department, emphasized the importance of this approach: “It’s not the equipment that heals first and foremost, but the specialists. That’s why every defender and civilian works with a multidisciplinary team focused on the individual’s goals and needs.”

We were delighted to share this day with the media team of our partner, the Dutch charity Kerk in Actie. A heartfelt personal thank you to Daan Verbaan for visiting us and for many years of steadfast partnership.

We warmly thank all participants for their engagement and lively discussions throughout the field module! See you very soon at the next session of the program.
