On 23-24 September, a workshop took place in Lviv with the participation of Dialogue in Action and representatives of different Christian denominations in Ukraine. The meeting marked the joint launch of the new two-year “Theology in Action” initiative, implemented by Dialogue in Action in cooperation with the Conference of European Churches (CEC), and partners from the Eastern European Institute of Theology.
The aim of “Theology in Action” is to create a space for shared theological reflection on the experience of war and the theology of peace from an interdenominational perspective.
The initiative will be grounded in dialogue: bringing people together to explore important questions in a spirit of inquiry, while paying close attention to the practical experience of living and serving in wartime. This is not only about theoretical reflection, but also about engaging with the lived experiences of different communities and finding a shared language to discuss them.
Over the course of two years, participants will explore themes including the theology of war and peace, justice and truth, identity and encounter with the other, memory and forgetting, hope, ethics and responsibility - within the framework of public theology.
The joint work is expected to result in a collective monograph bringing together the reflections and experiences developed throughout the initiative.
“Theology in Action” also aims to articulate the Ukrainian experience of living through war through the lens of public theology and bring these reflections into a broader European discourse. This means not only creating opportunities for international exchange, but also making space to speak about the Ukrainian experience from the perspective of those who are directly living and serving in conditions of war.
