The New Role of Religious Communities: ‘Dialogue in Action’ Participates in the DESS Conference

On December 15, a scientific and practical conference organized by the State Service for Ethnic Affairs and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) began in Kyiv. The event focused on current challenges in the field of ethnopolitics and social cohesion in the context of war and European integration, bringing together representatives of state authorities, members of parliament, scholars, and international experts.

As part of the conference, Tetiana Kalenychenko, co-founder of the non-governmental organization “Dialogue in Action,” delivered a report on the transformation of the role of religious communities since the start of the full-scale invasion. She emphasized the growing responsibility of religious organizations and their active involvement in humanitarian, social, and peacebuilding initiatives.

Tetiana also paid particular attention to the issue of burnout among religious leaders, stressing the importance of supporting their work and strengthening cooperation with secular partners. Among the key areas for further development, she highlighted public theology, advocacy for the rights of religious communities, and peacebuilding as essential components of strengthening social cohesion in Ukraine.
